Do you recognize this sound? Considered by many as the announcement of spring, this distinct, loud, high-pitched “peep” is the call of a spring peeper. More often heard than seen, these very small, pale-brown frogs can be recognized by the X-shaped mark on their backs. #WildlifeWednesday | NYS Department of Environmental Conservation

Hear that?! It's a sweet chorus of spring peepers! These tiny amphibians, no more than 1'' long, begin singing in early spring to attract future mates. The males typically start their "peeping" sounds in March up until June. The warmer the weather gets, the more mates they can attract so they can reproduce.
