We had a lot of interest in the instrument Brock Imison was playing in our previous post. Here it is playing on its own. This is a copy of a late 16th century octavebass curtal, the earliest ancestor of the modern contrabassoon. The original of our instrument is in Augsburg, Germany, where it has been since it was purchased as part of a curtal consort in around the 1590s. Our copy was made by Fritz Heller in the Netherlands. . The tune is Michael Praetorius's setting of 'Es ist ein Ros entsprung
