Scientists have developed a new solvent-based lithium extraction method capable of pulling lithium faster, cleaner, and more selectively from complex underground brines that are difficult to process using conventional evaporation ponds. Traditional lithium extraction can take months to years, consumes large amounts of water, and disrupts fragile ecosystems. The new approach uses specially designed solvents that bind directly to lithium ions, allowing rapid separation while leaving other minerals
