I made all the casing for the interior of my house with this method. Super simple 1x4 ripped on the table saw to have a 7/8” tall backband. This method of making it “one piece” helps avoid future cracking when the material moves due to humidity and temperature. We cut right through any nails that may be in the ends when we cut the miters without any issue. It gets assembled with #20 biscuits and makes for a very stable miter.
