Common Snapping Turtles have an incredible bite force that is capable of crushing bones and metal objects. They use this bite force to catch prey and defend themselves from predators. This Common Snapping Turtle (24-2518) was transported to our wildlife hospital after being found in a lethargic state. While doing Alligator Snapping turtle surveys with @gregsturtlehaven we came across an amazing sighting of both species of “snapping turtle” in North America being in a trap! The Common Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina) and Apalachicola Alligator Snapping Turtle (Macrochelys apalachicolae)!
