Verizon customers across the U.S. are experiencing a wireless network outage on Wednesday that is disrupting calls, texts, and mobile data.
Verizon outages today, Wednesday, Jan. 14, hit the U.S. with customers reporting "SOS" mode on their phones, Fios outages, home internet and Wi-Fi outages and other Verizon service issues. In an update on X today, Verizon said it is "working on the issue."
During the outage, iPhone and Android users reported seeing SOS or "SOS only" in the status bar. This means the device isn't connected to a network, but the phone users can still make emergency calls.
Over 1.5 million Verizon customers had reported outages, according to Downdetector, but by late Wednesday the company said service had been restored.
The outage lasted for more than six hours before it was resolved late Wednesday. The cause was not immediately clear.
New York State Assembly member Anil Beephan called on the Federal Communications Commission to investigate the hourslong service outage.
