Amazon to end support for older Kindle devices

Updated Amazon is rewarding long-time Kindle users by ditching support for aging devices, though it is trying to "minimize disruption" for existing customers by dangling a 20 percent discount for new models along with an eBook credit.
Amazon will cut Kindle Store access for eight older e-reader models from May 2026. UAE users with 2012-era devices can keep existing books but won't download new ones. Upgrade options include Kindle Colorsoft and Scribe through Amazon.
While you'll still be able to use your older Kindle after May 20, 2026, Amazon does include one important warning in its email: if you deregister or factory reset the device, you won't be able to register it again. So if you plan to keep reading on your older Kindle, it's best to avoid doing either.
Once Amazon flips the switch, which it plans to do next month, owners of affected models will no longer be able to purchase, borrow, or download new content.
