More than 120 million people are on alert for a brutal storm that's going to bring dangerous ice and snow to the South, bitter cold to the Midwest, and a massive snowfall to the Northeast. The storm moves into the South on Friday afternoon.
Several rounds of snow are possible across the East on Saturday and Sunday.
A Winter Storm Watch is in place to the north of Columbus, Ga. with isolated showers expected to continue through early Friday afternoon, and the possibility of snow flurries on Monday and Tuesday.

Major ice storm expected this weekend; impacts could last into next week
A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for parts of South Carolina and North Carolina as we prepare for an ice storm this weekend.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for a large portion of the United States, stretching from New Mexico, through the Great Plains, and into the Tennessee Valley.
People can expect temperatures to drop around the low 60s for the Lake Okeechobee region from late Jan. 23 into early Jan. 24 and again from late Jan. 24 into Jan. 25. The metro areas of Palm Beach County — including West Palm Beach — will likely stay warmer, hovering at about 70 degrees on the weekend nights, Reynes said.
A major winter storm is set to hit the Mid-South this weekend, bringing snow, sleet, and ice, with hazardous road conditions likely lasting into next week.
Snow and ice will impact dozens of states from Texas through the Northeast this week, forecasters warned.
